Armenian wrestlers win 7 medals at Vardanyan tournament

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian freestyle wrestlers claimed seven medals—one gold, two silver, and four bronze—at the 4th international memorial tournament dedicated to honored coach and distinguished sports figure Lyova Vardanyan.

The tournament was held from March 24 to 26 at the Mika Sports Complex in Yerevan, with support from Armenia’s Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport and the Yerevan Municipality.

Harutyun Hovhannisyan triumphed in the 61 kg category, earning the gold medal. Silver medals went to Erik Hayriyan, also in the 61 kg category, and Raffi Artushyan in the 65 kg class. Bronze medals were secured by Gagik Ghazaryan (61 kg), Tigran Ghazaryan (70 kg), Razmik Yepremyan (86 kg), and Khachatur Khachatryan (125 kg).

Other champions in different weight classes included: Nurdanat Aitanov (57 kg, Kazakhstan), Bilol Sharip Uulu (65 kg, Kyrgyzstan), Elhaichuran Ebrahim (70 kg, Iran), Mahid Mamivad Mohammad (74 kg, Iran), Shamispour Hajvand Abolfazl (79 kg, Iran), Yohlan Sagar (86 kg, India), Nuri Tuhid (92 kg, Iran), Malafeh Efran (97 kg, Iran), and Yedige Kassymbek (125 kg, Kazakhstan).

This year’s competition featured around 200 wrestlers from Armenia, Italy, France, Iran, Belarus, Moldova, India, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Georgia, and Cape Verde.
