Iran, Armenia hold joint drills in Norduz border area

PanARMENIAN.Net - Deputy Commander of the Ground Forces of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Valiollah Mani, has shared details about the joint military exercises involving the special units of Armenia and Iran, emphasizing their peaceful nature, Armenpress reports citing IRNA.

“The peaceful exercises will be held over two days in the border area of Norduz. There is no threat to the border regions of Iran or Armenia, and accordingly, the exercise is named ‘Peace’,” Valiollah Mani stated.

He added that the primary goal of the drills is to enhance border security.

“The border zones of both countries are of strategic importance due to the vulnerable geography of the region. We hope the peace-focused exercises will be conducted as planned and on schedule,” he said.

Previously, Armenia’s Ministry of Defense announced that on April 9–10, special units from the Armenian and Iranian armed forces would conduct a joint military exercise.

“The exercise includes operations to neutralize hypothetical terrorist groups attempting to attack border checkpoints along the Armenia-Iran state border,” the Ministry said.
