Gunfire heard in Chinari mountains, no threat reported

PanARMENIAN.Net - Local officials in Chinari, a border village within the enlarged Berd community, have dismissed concerns about gunfire reportedly heard in recent days. Speaking to the media, village administrator Samvel Saghoyan said the sounds came from the mountains and do not pose a threat.

“There is no shooting directed at the village, but we can hear shots from afar. The sounds come from the hills and mountains — that’s it. There is nothing dangerous. There is no shooting at or near the village posts. Everything is still normal,” Saghoyan told Factor.am .

Meanwhile, Levon Arakelyan, the head of the adjacent Nerkin Karmiraghbyur village, refuted claims that gunfire had been heard in his community.

“There’s no such thing. If I heard gunshots, how could I deny it? How can villagers hear something I haven’t? Maybe it’s audible in nearby villages, but I can’t say for sure,” Arakelyan stated.

Since March 16, Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defense has been spreading false claims about alleged gunfire from the Armenian side. Armenia’s Ministry of Defense has consistently denied these accusations. The European Union Monitoring Mission has also rejected Baku’s disinformation.
