RA official: plans to restore historic Ani bridge move forward

PanARMENIAN.Net - A technical meeting recently took place in Istanbul regarding the restoration of the historic Ani bridge, Deputy Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly and Special Envoy for normalization with Turkey Ruben Rubinyan told reporters in parliament.

“We discussed the full scope of the normalization process with the Turkish representative, including all agreements reached so far and their implementation. Some of them have been carried out, others have not,” Rubinyan said, as reported by Sputnik Armenia.

Regarding the potential opening of the Margara border crossing, Rubinyan noted there has been no recent progress.

“We have done everything on our side and are waiting for the Turkish side to fulfill its commitment. We have renovated the bridge and await Turkey’s step,” he emphasized.

Back in February 2024, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan announced after a private meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu that an agreement had been reached to jointly restore the Ani bridge. He noted that the Turkish side had recently presented its vision, and Armenia would respond in due course to continue the process.
