RPA unbothered by court decision, MP says

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Anti-Corruption Court of Appeals has granted the Prosecutor’s motion, overturning the General Jurisdiction Court’s acquittal of Armenia’s third president, Serzh Sargsyan, and others, and sent the case for retrial.

Tigran Abrahamyan, an MP from the I Have Honor faction, addressed the issue in a Facebook post, stating that the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) and Serzh Sargsyan are not particularly concerned by the ruling.

“The authorities did not forgive the law enforcement officers involved in this case, who failed to package the case in line with government propaganda and political expectations, nor the judge who refused to carry out the political directive handed down to him,” Abrahamyan wrote.

He added that the renewed publicity around the case came immediately after Sargsyan’s speech and statement during an RPA council session, signaling to the opposition that any steps toward political activity or assertiveness would be met with the regime’s familiar tactics.

“This does not especially concern RPA or Serzh Sargsyan. We’ve faced far harsher pressure and blows, but this is clearly meant to deter and constrain—sending a warning to all those forces and figures who might be preparing to become politically active,” Abrahamyan concluded.
