OSCE chief: South Caucasus holds strategic importance

PanARMENIAN.Net - On April 20, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met with Feridun Sinirlioglu, Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), who arrived in Armenia as part of a regional visit.

Sinirlioglu stated that the South Caucasus holds strategic importance for the OSCE and that the organization will continue participating in the peace-building process. He highlighted ongoing initiatives aimed at regional peace and stability.

Pashinyan welcomed the visit, calling it an effective platform for addressing bilateral cooperation topics and reaffirming Armenia’s commitment to deepening dialogue with the OSCE. He praised the prospects for enhanced collaboration.

According to the official readout, both parties expressed hope that a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan will be signed as soon as possible. Pashinyan reiterated Armenia’s priorities, emphasizing that advancing the peace agenda remains a key government objective.

Sinirlioglu noted that real opportunities exist today for achieving peace in the region and stressed the need to fully realize them.

The meeting concluded with an exchange of views on additional issues of mutual interest.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has repeatedly stated that the draft peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan is already agreed upon and awaiting final signing. On March 13, Armenia’s Foreign Ministry confirmed it had accepted Azerbaijan’s proposals on two previously unresolved articles. Armenia remains ready to consult on the time and location of the signing. Baku has since introduced new preconditions and claims it is too early to discuss meeting dates.
