In her message, she emphasized the importance of remembering the 1.5 million Armenians who were killed during the tragedy of 1915. “Today, we honor the memory of the 1.5 million people who were displaced, killed, and marched to their deaths during the Armenian Genocide. One hundred and ten years after this tragedy, we also reflect on the strength and resilience of the Armenian people and reaffirm our commitment to combating all forms of hatred,” Harris wrote. U.S. President Donald Trump avoided using the term “genocide” in his April 24 message, referring instead to the “Great Calamity.” The Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) strongly condemned Trump's retreat from formally recognizing the Armenian Genocide.
