Ex-President: opposition consolidation possible if purpose is clear

PanARMENIAN.Net - Robert Kocharyan, Armenia's second president, recently met with students and lecturers at the Armenian University. Responding to a question about possible opposition consolidation and joint struggle, he stated that such unity "is possible around a clear goal."

"It depends on what we mean by consolidation. If we mean gathering all opposition figures together and declaring unity, that is not going to happen. Let's not deceive ourselves. Around a specific goal, yes, I believe consolidation is possible," he said, as reported by Aysor.am .

He further noted that certain tactical agreements could also be achievable.

"But everyone is very different. There are issues of approaches, perceptions, and even personal relations. Setting a single goal, fixing the rules of engagement, and reaching mutual agreements—I see that as realistic. Those who succeed could then form a coalition and work together. Yes, this is the classical model that works everywhere.

For example, if elections are approaching, forming alliances for the elections is realistic. But creating a single alliance composed of 15 or 20 units is unrealistic; it will not work. Let's not deceive ourselves. Good intentions are not always an effective formula," Kocharyan stated.

On April 24, at Tsitsernakaberd, Kocharyan mentioned that he might soon meet with journalists again and possibly organize a new press conference.
