Armenian U17 team tops European wrestling championship

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia’s U17 Greco-Roman wrestling team secured the top spot in the team rankings at the European Championship held in Skopje, North Macedonia, collecting a total of five medals: two golds, two silvers, and one bronze.

Marat Ajemyan and Hayk Manukyan were crowned champions. Ajemyan dominated the 51 kg final against a Russian opponent with a 10:0 score, while Manukyan defeated an Azerbaijani wrestler 11:3 in the 60 kg final, ending the match early.

Martin Manjikyan (48 kg) and Janes Nazaryan (65 kg) both earned silver medals. Manjikyan lost 2:2 on criteria to a Bulgarian opponent, and Nazaryan was defeated by a Georgian wrestler, according to the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport.

Ararat Avetisyan took bronze in the 45 kg category after a dramatic 4:2 comeback win over a Bulgarian opponent in the final seconds.

Next, freestyle wrestlers will take to the mats.

Armenia’s U17 delegation in Skopje includes Aren Piruzyan (45 kg), Artak Aghabekyan (48 kg), Vahan Azaryan (51 kg), Armen Papikyan (55 kg), Razmik Voskanian (60 kg), Davit Davtyan (65 kg), Avetik Tutkhalyan (71 kg), Avet Yengoyan (80 kg), Narek Martirosyan (92 kg), and Laert Movsesyan (110 kg).
