Former PM Abrahamyan’s house arrest lifted

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia’s Court of Appeals has replaced the house arrest of former Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan with administrative supervision, Sputnik Armenia reports.

His lawyer Yerem Sargsyan said the court considered that Abrahamyan had already been under a travel ban for six years. Consequently, it lifted the restriction on his freedom and imposed administrative control instead.

Initially, a motion was submitted seeking the complete removal of any preventive measure. However, Sargsyan stated they would not appeal the appellate court's decision due to time constraints. He added that the Anti-Corruption Committee has declared the investigation complete, and the issue of preventive measures will be revisited during the trial.

Abrahamyan was arrested on June 13, and placed under house arrest the next day. He is facing public criminal prosecution on charges of abusing official authority and allegedly legalizing property—specifically land plots—of illicit origin.
