Deacon Hrayr Hakobyan released from custody

PanARMENIAN.Net - Deacon Hrayr Hakobyan, who was charged under terrorism preparation and usurpation of power articles, has been released from custody by decision of Judge Vazgen Rshtuni of the Armenian Court of Criminal Appeals.

His detention has been replaced with a ban on leaving the country and administrative supervision.

According to Armenpress, the Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia announced its intention to appeal the decision in the Court of Cassation.

Hakobyan’s lawyer, Hovsep Sargsyan, shared a photo of his client upon release from the Armavir penitentiary facility.

Deacon Hakobyan was initially arrested on June 26 and ordered to be held for two months.

On the morning of June 25, law enforcement began conducting searches at the residences of individuals associated with the Sacred Struggle movement. The Investigative Committee stated that members and leaders of the movement had been planning actions classified as terrorist and aimed at seizing power in Armenia.

Later, it was reported that the movement’s leader, Archbishop Bagrat, was also arrested for two months. A total of 14 other individuals were also detained.
