Pashinyan: CSTO sees Azerbaijan as brotherly state like Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated during the International Security Conference that the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) officially considers Azerbaijan to be as “brotherly” a state as Armenia.

“The CSTO has recorded that Azerbaijan is as brotherly to it as Armenia, and that the organization recognizes Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity,” Pashinyan said, as reported by Panorama.am .

He added that Armenia had never previously been confronted with this formulation.

“We had assumed we could find some formula that would clarify what is meant by Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity,” he said.

According to Pashinyan, this position was reaffirmed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on November 18 and December 17, 2020, when Putin stated that from the perspective of international law, the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh is part of Azerbaijan and has always been considered as such.

“In other words, this key security concept of a military-political alliance did not function in the context of the events surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh,” Pashinyan concluded.
