Armenia sees rail route to China as economic breakthrough

PanARMENIAN.Net - Speaking to reporters about the results of his working visit to China, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said the key outcome was the signing of a document establishing a strategic partnership between Armenia and China.

“The most important achievement is the establishment of a strategic partnership between Armenia and China. This gives our business community a strong political signal to expand cooperation in the economy and other sectors. Now it is up to our partners to make use of these opportunities,” Pashinyan stated, according to Armenpress.

He stressed that although geographical distance poses challenges, the unblocking of regional infrastructure could help overcome them. “It is becoming possible for cargo unloaded in Armenia to be transported by rail to China. This creates a completely new economic situation, and one of our tasks is to record this fact,” the Prime Minister said.

Pashinyan emphasized that the partnership includes concrete cooperation on mutual investment opportunities. He urged using the formulation “Armenia-China relations” rather than “Armenian-Chinese relations.”

Armenia and China officially established their strategic partnership on August 31.
