Suspect arrested over murder of Parakar mayor

PanARMENIAN.Net - A suspect has been arrested in the murder of Parakar’s opposition mayor, Vоlodya Grigoryan, killed in Merdzavan earlier this week.

Deputy head of Armenia’s Criminal Police Vardan Vardanyan told 24news that multiple investigative and operational measures have been carried out. He said the case is connected to personal disputes and is a continuation of incidents that took place in February, Sputnik Armenia reported.

Vardanyan stressed that the crime had no political motive.

Earlier, media reported that law enforcement searched the house of Narek Ohanyan, former head of Merdzavan and a relative of ruling Civil Contract member Mher Akhtoyan. He is also the brother of Grigor Ohanyan, who was murdered in February.

On the night of September 23 in Merdzavan, a masked and gloved gunman opened fire on three men in the backyard of Grigoryan’s newly built house. The attack killed Mayor Volodya Grigoryan and police officer Karen Abrahamyan, who was off duty at the time, and injured civilian Artsrun Galstyan.
