  Armenian MFA employee denies treason charges October 8, 2025 - 17:51 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The trial of Ashkhen Alexanyan, a staff member at Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who is accused of state treason, is being held behind closed doors, her lawyer confirmed. According to defense attorney Abgar Poghosyan, the defense itself requested the closed proceedings, emphasizing that Alexanyan does not admit guilt. He noted that if the case contained information critically harmful to Armenia’s security, it would have been the prosecution requesting secrecy. Alexanyan was arrested in June 2025 at Zvartnots Airport while allegedly attempting to depart for Austria, carrying documents marked as classified. Authorities claim she passed sensitive information to a person posing as “Shota Ivanishvili,” allegedly linked to Azerbaijani intelligence, in exchange for €34,000. The case is being presided over by Judge Ani Danielyan of the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction. Alexanyan faces prosecution under Article 418(1) of Armenia’s Criminal Code — for espionage and aiding hostile activity through the transmission of state secrets.
