Pashinyan, Cardinal Parolin discuss peace and cooperation

PanARMENIAN.Net - On October 20, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican’s Secretary of State, to discuss the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process and the importance of addressing humanitarian issues.

The two sides emphasized the high-level dialogue between the Armenian government and the Holy See, expressing confidence that this relationship will continue to grow stronger. They noted that Armenia–Holy See relations are based not only on shared Christian values, but also on a common historical and spiritual heritage, as well as similar perspectives on contemporary global challenges.

Cardinal Parolin expressed confidence that under Pope Leo XIV, bilateral ties will deepen further.

Pashinyan recalled that it was an honor to attend the canonization of Archbishop Ignatius Maloyan, stating that his life is a reminder that even in times of suffering, faith and courage can overcome adversity.

The meeting also addressed other items on the bilateral agenda.

During his official visit to the Holy See, Prime Minister Pashinyan also met with His Holiness Pope Leo XIV. The Pope welcomed Pashinyan’s visit and participation in the canonization of Archbishop Ignatius Maloyan and six other Blesseds. He emphasized the strong ties between the Holy See and Armenia, highlighting the role of the Mekhitarist Congregation of Venice in strengthening these relations.

The two leaders also discussed regional issues, including peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan and related humanitarian concerns.
