Armenia to lift age cap for assisted reproduction

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia’s National Assembly has passed in the first reading a bill to lift the age limit for participating in state-supported assisted reproductive technology (ART) programs. The draft law was presented by Deputy Minister of Health Armen Gasparyan.

Gasparyan explained that “Article 12, Paragraph 1, Clauses 1 and 2 of the law, which imposed age restrictions on the right to use assisted reproductive technologies, were declared unconstitutional and void. As a result, a new draft was developed to remove the age-based limitations for both women and men.”

According to him, in the past, three couples were denied access to the program solely due to age restrictions.

Under the previous regulations, a woman carrying a pregnancy herself had to be under 53, while surrogates could not be older than 55.

The new bill, which eliminates these limitations, was adopted in the first reading in parliament.
