Civil Contract dominates Vagharshapat local elections

PanARMENIAN.Net - Preliminary results from all 47 polling stations in Vagharshapat community of Armavir Province indicate that the Civil Contract party received the most votes, according to the Central Electoral Commission.

As per the published data, the number of registered voters in this Armavir community was 69,866, with 31,535 citizens participating in the election.

Civil Contract, headed by Argishti Mehakyan, received the highest number of votes in Vagharshapat.

Invalid ballots totaled 132, and there were 23 recorded irregularities.

Vote distribution was as follows:

1. Victory alliance – 10,051
2. Pan-Armenian Front party – 295
3. Republic party – 1,241
4. Mother Armenia National Democratic Party – 1,692
5. Free Democrats party – 1,177
6. Heritage party – 440
7. Civil Contract party – 15,298
8. Homeland party – 1,193

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated on his Facebook page that the outcome of the Vagharshapat elections is “an important boost for liberating the Mother See,” adding that “the people will win the 2026 parliamentary elections.”

“Dear voters of the Vagharshapat community, I bow to you and congratulate you first and foremost on holding democratic elections.

Through your choice, you made several key affirmations:

1. You elected Argishti Mehakyan, the Civil Contract party’s candidate, as the community head, reaffirming that a peaceful, prosperous, and democratic Republic of Armenia is the greatest tribute to our fallen heroes and the best way to honor their memory.
2. You gave unequivocal support to Civil Contract’s strategy to strengthen our statehood, independence, sovereignty, and freedom.
3. Your choice provides vital momentum in the process of liberating our holiest of holy sites—Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin—from Ktrich Nersisyan.
4. You recognized Civil Contract’s past work in your community and forgave the mistakes made. I want to apologize to all of you for those errors.

I congratulate Argishti Mehakyan on being elected as head of the consolidated Vagharshapat community, and I congratulate the people of Vagharshapat for choosing a modest but proven and effective administrator.

I also congratulate all my colleagues in the Civil Contract party and all citizens of the Republic of Armenia on this resounding prelude to the 2026 nationwide elections.

Argishti Mehakyan, the newly elected community head, expressed gratitude to the voters for their trust and support.

“Thank you for your trust and support. Your backing made this important victory possible, obliging us to work every day with greater responsibility and to turn your expectations into reality. We will continue to serve you and our community with honesty, care, and dedication,” he said.

According to preliminary results, Civil Contract can govern the community independently without forming a coalition.
