Karekin II summons synod to address church issues

PanARMENIAN.Net - Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II has called for a bishops’ assembly to be held from December 10 to 12, the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin announced. The meeting follows questions raised during the November 4–7 session of the Supreme Spiritual Council.

“The assembly will review recent developments concerning the Armenian Apostolic Church and issues related to internal church life,” the statement said.

Earlier, a group of senior Armenian Church bishops had recently accused Catholicos Karekin II of covering up a scandal involving Archbishop Arshak Khachatryan, based on leaked footage. They also questioned his legitimacy and called for his resignation. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met with these clergy members and expressed support for their position.
