U.S. delegation visits Armenia to support peace efforts

PanARMENIAN.Net - A U.S. delegation led by Brigadier General Chris McKinney has arrived in Armenia to support implementation of the agreements reached during the August 8 trilateral summit at the White House, according to the U.S. Embassy in Yerevan.

General McKinney is the Deputy Director for Partnership, Security Cooperation, and Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction at U.S. European Command. The command is closely cooperating with Armenia’s Ministries of Internal Affairs and Defense to advance shared goals in support of lasting peace. These efforts include expanding collaboration in chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) defense and continuing the modernization of Armenia’s armed forces.

On the previous day, the delegation visited the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex, where General McKinney laid flowers at the Eternal Flame in tribute to the victims of the Armenian Genocide.

At the August 8 summit in Washington, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a Joint Declaration summarizing the meeting’s outcomes. In the presence of the three leaders, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov pre-signed the Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
