Preparations start at Turkey–Armenia Alican border point

PanARMENIAN.Net - According to Turkish media, progress in normalization efforts between Turkey and Armenia has accelerated preparations to reopen their shared border. One of the key developments is the launch of technical assessments and preparatory work at the Alican border crossing, reports Ermenihaber.

The article notes that the post-war peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan has contributed to regional normalization, with Azerbaijan's recent fuel shipment to Armenia seen as the first commercial step in this context. Amid advancing diplomatic dialogue between Ankara and Yerevan, the Alican crossing is being prepared to initially reopen for cargo transportation via the Margara bridge, with passenger travel to follow at a later stage.

Plans also include additional road construction to link Alican to the Karakoyunlu district junction and the Zangezur route. This infrastructure expansion is expected to improve connections toward Iğdır and enhance regional trade and logistics.

Local inspections were carried out at the border by Iğdır Governor Ercan Turan, Migration Service head Hüseyin Kökre, acting Logistics Director General of Turkey’s Ministry of Defense Maj. Gen. Ahmet Hamdi Ataç, and representatives from other state bodies. Discussions focused on improving infrastructure, upgrading operational standards, and strengthening logistics capacity at the site.
