MP slams silence over Solovyov’s Armenia remarks

PanARMENIAN.Net - Arman Yeghoyan, Member of Parliament from the ruling Civil Contract faction and Chair of the Standing Committee on European Integration, criticized the lack of public and political reaction to comments made by Russian state TV host Vladimir Solovyov, who suggested launching a “special military operation” in Armenia.

Writing on Facebook, Yeghoyan expressed frustration at the media, opposition, and expert community for what he called “deafening silence.”

“I’m searching the Armenian press, and I can’t find any mention of the statement by Russian state TV host Vladimir Solovyov that a special military operation should begin in Armenia. I don’t just mean the statement itself, I don’t see any discussions, questions, debates, emergency briefings, or press conferences about it,” Yeghoyan wrote.

He contrasted this silence with the typical media coverage of Turkish or Azerbaijani bloggers or minor figures, saying Armenian outlets are quick to amplify their comments, yet have ignored a major threat voiced by “the most famous Russian journalist in the world.”

He continued: “Our journalists, who normally run across icy January streets asking questions, are silent. The opposition is silent. Among all our Turkey and Azerbaijan experts, is there not a single Russian affairs specialist to offer commentary?”

Yeghoyan criticized the tendency to pursue minor, often fake, stories while ignoring statements like Solovyov’s, which he called a real threat to national security.

Solovyov, a Russian broadcaster and propagandist, recently declared that international law should be disregarded and that Russia should conduct “special military operations” in Armenia and Central Asia. “What’s happening in Armenia is much more painful for us than what’s happening in Venezuela. The loss of Armenia is a major issue,” he said.
