Armenia hands over two Syrian mercenaries via Turkey

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia has transferred two Syrian citizens sentenced to life imprisonment so that they can serve the remainder of their sentences in Syria. The transfer was facilitated through Turkey, the Ministry of Justice reported.

“On January 14, Syrian citizens Yusuf Alaaebed Al-Hajji and Muhrab Muhammad Al-Shkheri, sentenced to life imprisonment in the Republic of Armenia, were handed over to the competent authorities of the Syrian Arab Republic through the Republic of Turkey. The aim is for them to continue serving their sentences in their country of citizenship,” the statement read.

The transfer was carried out within the framework of cooperation between relevant authorities and applicable legal mechanisms.

In May 2021, the Syunik Provincial Court of General Jurisdiction sentenced both Al-Hajji and Al-Shkheri to life imprisonment for their involvement as mercenaries in the 2020 military operations against Nagorno-Karabakh.
