MP: invaders don’t stay if peace is real![]() January 20, 2026 - 18:46 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Speaking during the National Assembly's statements hour, opposition MP Artur Khachatryan from the Hayastan faction argued that the Armenian authorities speak of peace, yet fail to provide a single example where peace is achieved between two countries while the occupying side keeps its military forces in the other’s territory. “When you read the TRIPP text, you wonder where the blockade-breaking is? Armenia gives Azerbaijan a corridor, a road, a railway, gas pipeline, oil pipeline, power lines, and communication cables. What does Armenia get in return? There is no mention in the documents that Azerbaijan will grant Armenia an unobstructed passage. It’s all vague references to some sort of reciprocal benefit,” Khachatryan stated, as reported by Panorama.am . He stressed that for Armenia’s blockade to be broken, Azerbaijan should, in parallel, commit with equal clarity to providing Armenia free passage through Nakhichevan, along with access to gas and oil pipelines. “There is no such thing. Worse, there are risks. The concern is that this could lead to Armenia and Azerbaijan ending up with a single energy system and new dependencies,” he added. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently signed a joint document in Washington under the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP), outlining Armenia-U.S. cooperation. The published TRIPP document defines the operational framework for the initiative and does not create legal obligations or commitments for either Armenia or the United States. Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult. The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan took to social media to thank his Lithuanian counterpart for the contribution. President of the Armenian parliament Alen Simonyan met with the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova. Partner news |
