UN envoy highlights regional peace efforts, U.S. partnership

PanARMENIAN.Net - On January 27, Armenia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Paruyr Hovhannisyan, participated in the UN Security Council’s open debate titled “Promoting and Strengthening the Rule of Law in the Maintenance of International Peace and Security.”

He presented recent developments in the South Caucasus, underscoring the agreements reached on August 8, 2025, and highlighting the Armenian-American framework signed on January 13 following a meeting between Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and U.S. Secretary of State Mark Rubio. This framework, part of the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) initiative, emphasizes sovereignty, territorial integrity, national jurisdiction, and reciprocity as pillars of institutionalized regional peace.

Addressing the global rise in threats to peace and security, humanitarian crises, grave human rights violations, growing inequalities, and eroding trust in international relations, Hovhannisyan stressed the importance of upholding the rule of law. He reaffirmed Armenia’s strong support for international legal mechanisms aimed at preventing violations of international law and ensuring accountability and access to justice.

The TRIPP implementation document, signed in Washington by Mirzoyan and Rubio, outlines the operational principles of the initiative. It does not create legal obligations for Armenia or the U.S.
