Papoyan: all sectors grew as trade flows declined

PanARMENIAN.Net - At his annual press conference, Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan reported that the country’s economic activity index rose to 9.1% in 2025, up from 8.3% in 2024, according to 1lurer.am .

Growth was registered across all sectors:

  • Services saw an increase of over 10%,
  • Trade grew by 3%,
  • Agriculture rose by nearly 6%,
  • Construction surged by more than 20%,
  • Industry grew by 4.7%,
  • Manufacturing increased by 3.3%.

However, both exports and imports declined, which the minister attributed primarily to a drop in gold re-exports and reduced movement of other goods due to stricter enforcement of international sanctions.

“You know the Armenian government closely monitors every decision the EU or U.S. makes regarding Russia. We immediately take them into account and make appropriate adjustments,” Papoyan said. “That’s why certain goods that passed through Armenia in 2023–2024 were no longer permitted in 2025. We are working closely with our European partners, which explains the reduction in re-exports in some directions.”

Separately, ruling Civil Contract MP Babken Tunyan responded to concerns over imports only coming from Azerbaijan, stating that Armenia could begin exporting goods to Azerbaijan within the next 1–2 months.
