FM says Iran values regional efforts to ease tensions![]() February 9, 2026 - 14:50 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has praised Azerbaijan and six other regional countries for their proactive efforts to reduce tensions and promote negotiations between Tehran and Washington, APA reported, citing IRNA. Araghchi stated that consultations are ongoing with states in the region that have taken independent initiatives to foster dialogue. He recalled that the presidents of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, and Egypt have held phone conversations with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. “I have also held, and will continue to hold, multiple phone calls with the foreign ministers of regional states. We respect their goodwill and sincere efforts. Their role in reducing tensions, preventing extreme actions, and encouraging dialogue has been highly effective,” Araghchi said. He emphasized that regional support for the negotiation process is a highly positive factor, and Iran will continue consultations with these countries. According to Araghchi, such initiatives from regional states can significantly advance Iran–U.S. talks and help ensure the stability of any resulting agreements. He also noted that Iran continues to hold consultations with its strategic partners — China and Russia. “Yesterday, my deputy met with the ambassadors of China and Russia. We briefed them on the details and progress of the talks and will continue these consultations,” he added. Azerbaijani authorities report that they have already resettled 3,000 people in the Nagorno-Karabakh town of Stepanakert. On June 10, Azerbaijani President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev will leave for Turkey on a working visit. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev arrived in Moscow on April 22 to hold talks with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. Authorities said a total of 192 Azerbaijani troops were killed and 511 were wounded during Azerbaijan’s offensive. Partner news |
