U.S. backs deeper defense cooperation with Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia’s Ministry of Defense said that on February 13, Defense Minister Suren Papikyan received David Allen, Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Armenia. The minister congratulated him on assuming office and wished him success in his mission.

During the meeting, the sides discussed issues related to Armenia–U.S. cooperation in the defense sector. David Allen expressed the United States’ readiness to further develop defense cooperation with Armenia, as well as its support for Armenia’s defense reform process.

Suren Papikyan underlined the importance of Armenia–U.S. cooperation at a time when Armenia is in an active phase of defense reforms. The discussion also covered bilateral military-technical cooperation.

The interlocutors particularly emphasized cooperation in education, training, exercises, exchange of experience and professional advisory support.

Regional and international security issues were also discussed.

The United States has approved the sale of $11 million worth of reconnaissance drone technologies to Armenia.
