Yerevan undecided on nuclear proposal source

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia has decided that its future nuclear power plant will be modular, but discussions are ongoing and no decision has been made on which country’s proposal will be selected.

Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Narek Apitonyan said Armenia has made a decision only regarding the type of the new nuclear power plant, specifying that it will be modular. However, it remains unclear with which country cooperation will proceed and whose proposal will ultimately be accepted, Azatutyun reports.

According to the deputy minister, consultations are still underway and no final agreements have been reached.

Within the framework of the program to construct a new nuclear power unit, the company “Construction of a New Nuclear Power Unit,” established for this purpose, will present recommendations on the type and capacity of the new unit or units based on the results of studies and analyses. The government has not disclosed when this proposal will be submitted.

During U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance’s visit, Yerevan and Washington signed an agreement on concluding negotiations on peaceful nuclear cooperation. Vice President Vance stated that American nuclear reactors would reach Armenia. Moscow responded promptly, with senior Russian officials declaring that Armenia has no real alternative to Russia’s proposal.
