Criminal case opened over Ajapnyak shooting![]() February 20, 2026 - 18:30 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - A criminal case has been initiated against one individual in connection with the shooting recorded in Yerevan’s Ajapnyak administrative district, the Investigative Committee said, according to RFE/RL. The committee stated that within the framework of the criminal proceedings, public criminal prosecution has been launched against the individual on charges involving serious and especially serious crimes under Articles 155(2)(7)(8), seven counts under Articles 44-155(2)(7)(8), as well as Articles 297(3) and 335(1) of the Criminal Code. He has been charged with one count of murder committed under aggravating circumstances, seven counts of attempted murder under similar circumstances, illegal arms trafficking and hooliganism. A detention order has also been issued. On February 18, one person was killed and six others were injured in a shooting incident in Ajapnyak district. Criminal proceedings were initiated on charges of murder, attempted murder, hooliganism, as well as illegal circulation of firearms, their main components, ammunition and other materials, devices and objects. As a result of floods in Armenia’s northern Lori and Tavush provinces, 17 bridges, including five large ones, have collapsed. David Vardanyan is the son of former Karabakh leader Ruben Vardanyan who who is currently imprisoned in Azerbaijan.
