Inter plans new deal for Mkhitaryan

PanARMENIAN.Net - Inter is considering extending midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s contract for one more season, but with an expected salary reduction of around 20 percent and an adjusted role within the team, FcInterNews.it reports.

Although the current campaign has not been the best for the 37-year-old Armenian footballer, he continues to contribute to the Nerazzurri. In the latest Serie A match against Lecce, Mkhitaryan came off the bench and scored a crucial goal that helped the team secure a seventh consecutive league victory and a ninth straight away win. His strike proved too strong for Lecce goalkeeper Wladimiro Falcone, Sportaran.com writes.

The midfielder also had an opportunity to provide an assist, but Federico Dimarco failed to convert the chance. Nevertheless, the experienced player’s contribution was once again significant.

The Milan club’s management believe that with proper distribution of playing time, Mkhitaryan can remain useful. For that reason, a contract extension until the summer of 2026 is under discussion, with a more limited role primarily as a rotation player.

In March, Inter representatives are expected to meet with the player’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta. The sides will discuss the details of a possible one-year extension and seek a compromise on financial terms and the player’s status.

Armenia national team head coach Yeghishe Melikyan met with Henrikh Mkhitaryan after the Inter–Juventus match. During the meeting, Mkhitaryan reaffirmed that at this stage he is focused exclusively on his club career.
