Baku withdraws diplomatic staff from Iran

PanARMENIAN.Net - Azerbaijan has recalled its diplomats from Iran, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov announced.

“President Ilham Aliyev has decided to completely withdraw the diplomatic staff from Iran. The process concerns both the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran and the consulate general in Tabriz. Work in this direction is currently underway,” he said, according to Minval.az.

At the same time, Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry clarified what the country’s declared “Mobilization No. 1” means.

According to the ministry, such a decision places the armed forces on full combat readiness. It also involves calling up reservists for military service.

As part of mobilization measures, military units are moved to combat positions or predetermined deployment areas.

The Defense Ministry stressed that these steps aim to ensure the army’s operational readiness and ability to respond quickly to potential threats.

Bayramov also said that all necessary instructions have been issued by the president following drone attacks launched from Iranian territory toward the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, APA reports.

According to him, diplomatic steps have also been taken in response to the situation. Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry delivered an official note and held phone consultations.

“Security measures are also under the president’s control at the highest level. The readiness level of the armed forces is being further increased. All relevant instructions have been given,” Bayramov added.

Earlier reports said Iranian drones struck Nakhichevan Airport, while several others crashed in nearby areas.

Later it was reported that one of the drones fell near a school. Iran’s ambassador to Baku, Mojtaba Demirchilu, was summoned to Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry and handed a note of protest.
