Police probes alleged pressure on voters abroad

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Police of Armenia’s Interior Ministry have submitted a report to the Investigative Committee regarding alleged pressure on Armenian citizens in another country and attempts to force them to support certain political forces in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Authorities noted that any illegal influence or interference in electoral processes will be subject to legal assessment.

Earlier, the Foreign Intelligence Service of Armenia reported that in another country, individuals claiming to represent that state’s special services are attempting to pressure people of Armenian origin and Armenian citizens engaged in economic activities there. The goal, according to the report, is to push them to support certain political forces participating in Armenia’s upcoming parliamentary elections.

“Based on this information, the police carried out verification measures. As a result, a report on an apparent crime — involving obstruction of the free exercise of electoral rights through material incentives and coercion to participate in elections by exploiting financial or other dependency — has been forwarded to the Investigative Committee,” the Interior Ministry said.

The ministry also reminded that any illegal impact on electoral processes will receive a legal response.

Authorities called on citizens to remain vigilant and urged anyone with information about such incidents to immediately contact the police.

Parliamentary elections in Armenia are scheduled for June 7, 2026.
