Armenia, Switzerland hold talks on regional issues

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Vice President of the Swiss Confederation, head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs Ignazio Cassis, discussed developments in the South Caucasus and the Middle East during a meeting in Bern.

During the talks, the sides noted with satisfaction the actively developing political dialogue between Armenia and Switzerland and reaffirmed their readiness to further expand cooperation across various areas.

In this context, particular importance was attached to the Armenian government’s decision to open an embassy of Armenia in Bern, which was described as an important political step for broadening and enriching the bilateral agenda.

Mirzoyan presented the steps undertaken to strengthen the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan on a more solid institutional basis.

The Armenian foreign minister also highly valued Switzerland’s support both for the continued strengthening of Armenia’s democratic institutions and for addressing humanitarian issues, including the needs of refugees displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh.

The foreign ministers of Armenia and Switzerland also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.

On February 28, Israel and the United States carried out airstrikes on Iran, during which Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed. Iran responded with strikes toward Israel and Gulf countries hosting U.S. military bases.
