MPs review candidate for Constitutional Court post

PanARMENIAN.Net - The National Assembly is considering the election of Vladimir Vardanyan as a judge of the Constitutional Court. His candidacy was nominated by the President of Armenia.

Vardanyan stated that he sees risks of political bias when moving from a political position to the role of a Constitutional Court judge, but emphasized the importance of adhering to the judicial oath, according to Armenpress.

“I have been in parliament for seven years, and each of us is under oath, which clearly requires us to uphold the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia. From the moment of taking the oath, you assume obligations, and regardless of your political orientation or preferences, you must act in accordance with your oath,” Vardanyan said.

He added that in several European countries, it is also a legal requirement that part of the constitutional court members should be former parliamentarians.

Vardanyan holds a PhD in legal sciences. Since 2019, he has been a member of parliament and currently chairs the Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs.
