Pashinyan meets new EU mission chief

PanARMENIAN.Net - Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has met with the newly appointed head of the European Union civilian mission in Armenia, Satu Koivu.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as issues related to ensuring regional stability.

Pashinyan congratulated Koivu on assuming the responsible position and highlighted the importance of the EU civilian mission’s work in Armenia. He noted that Armenia–EU relations have continued to develop dynamically and emphasized the European Union’s consistent support in strengthening democratic institutions.

Satu Koivu thanked the prime minister for the warm reception and spoke about the mission’s activities. She expressed confidence that close cooperation and active dialogue with Armenian government partners will continue.

EU observers arrived in Armenia on February 20, 2023. In January 2025, it was decided that European monitors would remain in Armenia’s border regions for another two years, until February 19, 2027. Azerbaijan has accused the EU mission in Armenia of conducting “espionage” and “binocular diplomacy.”
