Another youth detained after spitting at PM convoy

PanARMENIAN.Net - Another young man was detained in Yerevan on Palm Sunday after an incident involving a vehicle serving Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

According to lawyer Ruben Melikyan, the incident occurred several hours after the events at St. Anna Church, in the Erebuni district. The young man, also named Mikael, was reportedly taking out trash when he noticed the prime minister’s motorcade and spat at one of the vehicles.

He was held for 48 hours and then released. The detainee is also a school student.

“Our children are taking a bad example from Alen Simonyan,” Melikyan wrote.

The act was classified as hooliganism.

Melikyan noted that the charge was based not only on the act of spitting, but also on the young man’s alleged remark that “the Turk has sold our lands.” He questioned the legal assessment, asking whether similar actions by Alen Simonyan had also been treated as hooliganism.

On March 29, an incident occurred during a church service at St. Anna Church in Yerevan. As the prime minister was leaving through a dense crowd, one individual told a bodyguard, “Don’t look at me like that.” Another person attempted to strike toward Pashinyan. He instructed his bodyguards to remain calm, and arrests were made in the church courtyard.

Afterward, Pashinyan said some of those involved were linked to the Republican Party of Armenia, while others were associated with the Sasna Tsrer group.
