Ashotyan: RPA voters will back opposition![]() April 7, 2026 - 11:12 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Armen Ashotyan, vice chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia, said the party’s voters will support opposition forces despite its decision not to run. He outlined the reasons for not participating in the upcoming parliamentary elections in a Facebook post. “Our voters’ ballots will not be lost; they will be added to the votes of opposition forces,” he wrote. Ashotyan listed four key reasons for the decision: A) Not to further fragment the opposition field. B) To give all those forces the opportunity to fulfill their promises, especially those claiming that the so-called former authorities hinder the change of power. C) To set an example of placing collective success above narrow party interests and political calculations. D) Finally, the decision is also largely based on detailed sociological research showing that Republicans and our supporters, almost without exception, plan to participate in the elections and vote exclusively for opposition political forces. “In other words, our voters’ votes will not disappear but will merge with opposition votes, contributing to preventing the reproduction of the current authorities,” he said. The Republican Party of Armenia has announced it will not participate in the parliamentary elections scheduled for June 7, 2026. The decision was made during a meeting of its executive body. Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult. The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan took to social media to thank his Lithuanian counterpart for the contribution. President of the Armenian parliament Alen Simonyan met with the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova. Partner news |
