Armenia tops Economist regional democracy index![]() April 9, 2026 - 11:05 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia has taken a high position in the latest democracy assessment, surpassing other countries in the region. According to the latest index published by The Economist, Armenia has secured a leading position in the region in terms of the level of democracy. The magazine released its annual Democracy Index on April 7, Factor.am reports. In particular, Armenia ranked 84th, being included in the group of countries with hybrid regimes. Georgia and Turkey are also in this category, ranking 99th and 102nd respectively. Armenia’s other neighbors, Azerbaijan and Iran, were classified among authoritarian states, ranking 127th and 152nd. At the same time, Russia and Belarus were placed in the same authoritarian category, occupying the 148th and 149th positions. Meanwhile, Moldova (77th place) and Ukraine (93rd place) were included among countries with hybrid regimes. Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult. The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan took to social media to thank his Lithuanian counterpart for the contribution.
