Large cigarette smuggling attempt foiled at Agarak

PanARMENIAN.Net - At the Agarak checkpoint, customs authorities uncovered an attempted illegal import of tobacco products, the State Revenue Committee reported.

A truck arriving from Iran was subjected to customs inspection. Analysis of X-ray images raised suspicion among officers that the vehicle might be carrying a large quantity of cigarettes.

During the inspection, customs officers discovered 18,520 packs of undeclared cigarettes with various markings, hidden in multiple compartments — including overhead shelves in the driver’s cabin, storage sections in the trailer, and even inside a mattress.

The attempted smuggling of the large batch was prevented, and the batch was seized.

A report on the violation of customs regulations has been drawn up against Armenian citizen E.V. under Article 316 of the Law “On Customs Regulation.”

The case materials have been forwarded to the relevant SRC department for further proceedings.

The State Revenue Committee urges citizens to refrain from such illegal activities and comply with customs regulations.
