Amnesty not result of pressure but internal need

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Armenian authorities have demonstrated political will, said a spokesman for the ruling Republican Party of Armenia.

"Armenian President has taken the decision and submitted a relevant proposal to the parliament, which decreed to declare amnesty. This was a serious and significant move," Eduard Sharmazanov said.

"The amnesty applies to more than 2000 people who serve their sentence under certain articles. The decision is more legal than political," he said. "It is not conditioned by PACE session. Amnesty and similar reforms are essential for development of our country and society. It is not the result of pressure but internal need."
