Armenian envoy in Russia summoned over Zelenskyy remarks

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia’s ambassador to Russia, Gurgen Arsenyan, was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s speech in Yerevan.

“The ambassador was firmly told that it was unacceptable to provide a ‘platform’ in Yerevan, during events held under EU auspices, for Zelenskyy, described by Moscow as the leader of Kyiv’s Nazi regime, to issue terrorist threats against Russia,” the statement said, according to RIA Novosti.

Earlier, during the opening of the European Political Community summit in Yerevan, Zelenskyy said that “Ukrainian drones could fly over the parade,” referring to reports that Moscow’s May 9 parade may take place without heavy military equipment.

The Russian side also said it was outraged by what it described as the absence of a clear negative response from official Yerevan to Zelenskyy’s remarks, arguing that such a stance contradicts the partnership nature of Russian-Armenian relations.

Arsenyan said he would convey Moscow’s concerns to Armenia’s leadership.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that Armenia’s current foreign policy course would eventually lead to irreversible alignment with Brussels’ anti-Russian agenda. She warned that such a development could bring political and economic consequences for Armenia.
