Will Russia quit Council of Europe?

PanARMENIAN.Net - Russia is a country where human rights are least protected, said a representative of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

After a monitoring the PACE held in 11 countries - Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Georgia, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Russia, Serbia and Ukraine - the organization concluded that Russia is a record breaker in not fulfilling commitments.

It's the only country which did not cancel death penalty. Besides, Russia like Monaco and Azerbaijan has not joined convention on combating trafficking in people yet.

Another gross violation is State Duma's refusal to ratify the 14th protocol to European convention on human rights. There are also problems with freedom of speech.

The war with Georgia was named the most flagrant violation, reported altaypressa.ru.
