Pashinyan rules out Azerbaijanis' resettlement in Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan denied statements by representatives of the Strong Armenia alliance claiming that the current authorities had undertaken obligations regarding the resettlement of Azerbaijanis in Armenia.

Responding to a journalist’s remark that Strong Armenia alliance leader Samvel Karapetyan had claimed the current Armenian authorities had assumed obligations concerning Azerbaijani resettlement in Armenia, and that if this was not true Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan should say so, the premier replied that it was false, according to 1lurer.am .

Asked whether he guarantees that Azerbaijanis will not be resettled in Armenia during his time in office, Pashinyan answered positively.

“Yes, I give guarantees. I guarantee it, and this is connected with the fact that I say the Karabakh issue is closed, the Karabakh issue will not continue, there will be no issue of return to Karabakh, there will be no issue of return to Nakhchivan, there will be no issue of return to Baku, no issue of return to Sumgait, no issue of return to Kirovabad, no issue of return to Yevlakh, and so on. Yes, I guarantee it, this is an absurd topic, this is a conflict topic, not a peace topic, and this is so obvious. Again, it is false, and yes, I guarantee it,” Pashinyan said.

Earlier, Pashinyan had also addressed the topic of the return of 300,000 Azerbaijanis, claiming it was an agenda invented by the opposition. He added that such an issue had never been discussed in Armenia-Azerbaijan negotiations or generally been part of Armenia’s agenda.
