Alliance party withdraws from election race

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Alliance Progressive Centrist Party has quit the election race.

The Central Election Commission of Armenia invalidated the registration of the Alliance Progressive Centrist Party. As a result, there will be no ballot paper numbered 13 in Armenia’s June 7, 2026 parliamentary elections.

Authorized representatives of the party also attended the CEC’s extraordinary session on May 26 and confirmed that the party’s permanent governing body had made the decision.

Earlier, party chairman Tigran Urikhanyan announced the decision, emphasizing that the party was “not one that scatters votes.”

“All parties that have no chance of overcoming the minimum threshold and still continue participating are providing the fragmented bonus votes necessary for Nikol and his treacherous group to win. We are withdrawing from the race, proving that the Alliance party is a real and genuine anti-systemic opposition force,” Urikhanyan said in a video address.

Earlier, the CEC had rejected the registration of party leader Tigran Urikhanyan because he failed to meet the constitutional requirement of holding only Armenian citizenship and permanently residing in Armenia during the previous four years.

The election campaign that began on May 8 will continue until June 5. June 6 will be a day of silence, and voting will take place on June 7.
