Pashinyan says Armenia buys arms widely

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said during a meeting with residents of Charentsavan in Kotayk province that Armenia is currently purchasing weapons from six or seven countries.

Referring to the military parade scheduled for May 28 at Republic Square in Yerevan, Pashinyan said modern foreign-made weapons systems would be displayed there, Armenpress reported.

“At the parade, we will present modern foreign-made weapons. It is very important that we have diversified the sources of our arms purchases. We are not buying weapons from just two or three countries. We are acquiring weapons from six or seven countries. This is important so that we have a choice,” Pashinyan said.

The prime minister also stated that the parade would feature modern weapons produced in Armenia.

“Most importantly, there will also be modern weaponry to a certain extent that has been produced in the Republic of Armenia,” he said.

A military parade marking Republic Day will be held in Yerevan’s Republic Square on May 28, during which the Armenian armed forces will display weapons acquired over the past four years.

Until 2022, Russia was Armenia’s main arms supplier, but since then Armenian authorities have diversified procurement markets. In recent years, Armenia has purchased weapons from India — a topic widely covered in the Indian press — as well as from France, with Armenia and France signing several defense-related agreements in 2023 and 2024.
