Tatoyan, Pashinyan clash over war death toll

PanARMENIAN.Net - During a televised debate among the leaders of political forces participating in the parliamentary elections, Nikol Pashinyan, the prime ministerial candidate of the Civil Contract party, and Arman Tatoyan, the prime ministerial candidate of the Wings of Unity party, argued over the number of fatalities in the 44-day war.

Tatoyan stated that the number of deaths was close to 5,000 and that the identities of those individuals were known.

“We had 4,991 fatalities, the names are known. Anyone who did not die, you ask: why didn’t you go and get killed?” Tatoyan said while holding a list containing the names of those individuals, Sputnik Armenia reported.

Pashinyan responded that the figure was «false».

“To date, we have had 4,273 fatalities, including civilians,” Nikol Pashinyan said.

Earlier, National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan had repeatedly stated that there were not 5,000 fatalities in the 44-day war and described those making such claims as scoundrels. In November 2025, he also stated that 3,833 people had been killed as a result of the war.
