Court orders two-month detention for ex-official

PanARMENIAN.Net - Arman Sahakyan, the former head of Armenia’s State Property Management Department and a member of the Republican Party of Armenia, has been placed in pre-trial detention for two months. The information was confirmed by Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Committee, according to Sputnik Armenia.

Sahakyan was detained on June 4 as part of a criminal proceeding launched over an alleged case of giving or receiving election bribes.

Criminal proceedings had also been initiated against Arman Sahakyan and several former high-ranking officials on April 8 of this year. They were detained on the same day but released several hours later.

Arman Sahakyan was first charged in 2020, when bail of 5 million drams was imposed as a preventive measure. On July 1, 2024, it became known that he had reimbursed 178 million drams in damages allegedly caused to the state. In January 2025, a court declined to place Sahakyan in custody and instead imposed administrative supervision as an alternative preventive measure.
