Hovhannisyan outlines court deadline in election case

PanARMENIAN.Net - Former Justice Minister and former National Assembly Vice Speaker Arpine Hovhannisyan has stated that if Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission (CEC) applies to court regarding the possible suspension of the Strong Armenia Alliance from the parliamentary elections, the deadline for a court decision would be the end of June 6.

In a Facebook post, Hovhannisyan cited the deadlines established by Armenia’s electoral legislation.

“Regarding the deadline for invalidating a party’s registration, in response to numerous questions:

‘Article 209. Deadlines for applying to the Administrative Court and for examining claims.

Claims concerning the registration, refusal of registration, cancellation or invalidation of candidates and party electoral lists shall be examined and resolved by the Administrative Court within five days of receiving the claim, but no later than the day preceding the vote.’

If and when the CEC applies to the court, the deadline for a decision will be by the end of tomorrow,” Hovhannisyan wrote.

The statement comes after the Republic Party submitted an application to the Central Electoral Commission seeking to suspend the participation of the Strong Armenia Alliance in the parliamentary elections.

During a televised leaders’ debate, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had earlier called on opposition leaders to appeal to the CEC on the matter.
