Officials reject claims about Turkish voter registration

PanARMENIAN.Net - No citizen of the Republic of Turkey is registered at 82 Suvorov Street in Yerevan’s Erebuni district, Nelli Davtyan, head of Armenia’s Migration and Citizenship Service, stated during a press conference at the Central Electoral Commission, according to the agency.

The service said its representatives contacted the citizen who had raised the concern and explained the procedures governing permanent and actual residence registration in the state population register. The individual was also informed that only citizens of the Republic of Armenia can be included in parliamentary election voter lists.

At the same time, officials noted that in order to obtain information about persons registered at a particular address, as well as details related to registration, it is necessary to provide documents confirming property ownership.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs urged the public not to spread manipulative information and to publish only verified information.

A video circulating online shows a citizen claiming that a person with a Turkish-sounding surname is registered at his address.

Based on the video, a media outlet published information about an individual listed on the voter roll of one of the polling stations in Yerevan’s Erebuni district.

The video also displays the voter list of polling station 10/12, where the personal data of Krtan Oghli Nanor Harutyuni can be seen.

According to FactorTV, the outlet examined and identified the information, locating a person with the same first name, surname and patronymic on the voter list of polling station 10/12.

The same name also appears in voter lists published by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and is registered at 82 Suvorov Street in Yerevan’s Erebuni district. The voter registry published on the Central Electoral Commission’s website likewise lists the individual at the same address, writes Factor.am .

Five other voters with three different surnames are also registered at the same address.

Parliamentary elections are underway in Armenia. The country’s 2,005 polling stations opened at 8:00 a.m. The voter registry includes 2,485,851 registered voters. Polling stations will remain open until 8:00 p.m.

A total of 18 political forces are participating in the parliamentary elections: two electoral alliances and 16 political parties. The electoral threshold is 4% for parties and 8% for alliances.
